Jalan Sumur Jambu Drainage Project on Track to Finish by November

The East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) is currently overhauling a 530-meter drainage channel along Jalan Sumur Jambu in Pinang Ranti, Makasar, with the project slated for completion by November 8.

East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency’s Economy and Development Section Head, Tengku Saugi Zikri explained that the upgrade was necessary as the existing channel could no longer cope with runoff.

He noted that Jalan Sumur Jambu is situated on lower terrain, leaving the channel prone to overflowing and street ponding during intense rainfall.

“We're installing concrete U-ditches in sizes of 40, 60, 80, and 100 centimeters, as well as box culverts of corresponding sizes,” he expressed, Thursday (10/1).

He added that the overhaul is being carried out by a winning bidder contracted via the e-Catalog platform.

“Throughout the work, on-site technical realities have necessitated a few adjustments to the placement of the concrete U-ditches,” he clarified.

He added that the channel—initially slated to empty into the Kampung Pulo Connecting Channel—required a redesign due to preexisting channel modifications by the developer of Citra Homes Halim.

“We redirected construction in that sector to Jalan Sumur Jambu II, covering a stretch of around 29.80 meters,” he added.

Saugi noted that plans were likewise modified in front of SDN Makasar 06/07 Pagi, as laying U-ditches there risked bottlenecking the drain and compromising the school’s boundary wall.

“We shifted that scope of work to a 49.5-meter span on Jalan Sumur Jambu I, using 40-centimeter U-ditches instead,” he stated.

He stressed that without rerouting the construction, volume adjustments would have been settled via a contract amendment or final quantity calculation once all works concluded.

“Disbursements will be calibrated to reflect the exact volume of work realized on-site,” he noted.

The channel overhaul, he continued, got underway on August 25, 2026, and is slated to wrap up by November 8, 2026.

“To date, we have completed roughly 207 meters of work, representing 78.30 percent progress,” he explained.

Makasar Sub-district Head Dimas Prayudi, explained that the canal upgrade stemmed directly from community proposals submitted during local development planning forums (Musrenbang) and city council recess meetings.

“Hope this expanded drainage capacity will effectively curb potential waterlogging. I urge residents to collectively keep the canal clean and refrain from littering,” he emphasized.
